Workshop: Japanese Stab Book Binding

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Japanese Stab Book Binding:

Japanese stab binding is an easy, quick way to make a book. It can be used to bind single sheets of paper into a long-lasting book. It can be done without fancy equipment or much sewing experience. This workshop will be a walk through the easiest yet elegant way to make a Japanese stab bound book. (I’ll also mention some of the more common variations.) You don’t need previous experience.

Location: Arnecliffe Studio

Date and Time: Sunday, April 19, 12-3pm

Photographing Your Artwork:
Would you like to photograph your art? Do you feel like your camera
is just not doing the trick? Feel like you just can’t get the right
lighting? Want to increase your audience? Keep a better record of what
you’ve done?

This workshop aims at helping you get high quality photographs that display
your work in the way you’d like. The camera is a digital Canon Rebel (which
took the pictures on the art club blog) that produces large scale, high detail
photographs that can be cropped or poster-sized. The studio has lots of
different types of light so we can find one that works for your art.

We’ll take the pictures and you can bring them home for your own use (so be sure to bring a flash drive)!

Location: Arnecliffe Studio
teacher: Teresa Silva

Teach a Workshop!

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

We want workshops in any possible topic. You really don’t need to be an expert, anything is great.

Please, if you are a member of the Bryn Mawr Community, think about teaching a workshop with Art Club.

Here’s how:

1.    Come up with the topic. It could be anything that you like to do for instance topics in drawing, painting, sewing, paper making, book making, puppetry, collage, zine-making, embroidery, charcoals, pastels, poster design, stamp making, linoleum block printing, fabric dying, silkscreen, calligraphy, theater…the possibilities are endless. Art Club is open to anything.
2.    Contact Angela Wang or Anna Lehr Mueser to see the studio, check out materials, and decide on a date and time. They will also discuss with you funding and any other concerns. You will be reimbursed for any purchases of materials!
3.    Write up a blurb explaining the workshop, the time, the date, and the location.  This will be used to advertise for you.
4.    TEACH IT!

It should not be a scary prospect. There will be people available to answer any questions and to help you out. If you like to do it or find it relaxing, share it!
